The last Will and Testament of me Richard Aldred of Read in the Parish of Whalley and County of Lancaster Yeoman as follows, That is to say, First I order and direct that all my Just Debts Funeral Expences and Probate of this my Will be fully paid Quit cleared and discharged out of my Real and Personal Estates by my Executors hereinafter Named. Then I give and Bequeath to Agnes daughter of my late Uncle Joseph Aldred of Horton near Leeds in the County of York the Sum of Ten Pounds of Lawful Money of Great Britain I give and Bequeath to my Cousin Nancy, Sister of the said Agnes of Horton aforesaid the Sum of Ten Pounds of like Money I give and Bequeath to my Cousin Richard Aldred of Horton aforesaid the sum of Ten Pounds of like Money I give and Bequeath to my Cousin Peggy Aldred of Horton aforesaid spinster the sum of Ten Pounds of like Money I give and bequeath to my Cousin Mary the Wife of Robert Bertwistle of Great Harwood in the said County of Lancaster the Sum of Ten Pounds of like Money . I give and Bequeath to my Cousin Elizabeth sister to my said cousin Mary Bertwistle the sum of Ten Pounds of like Money. I give and Bequeath to Ann the Wife of Christopher Stevenson of Rishton in the said County of Lancaster, Joiner, the Sun of Ten Pounds of like Money. I give and Bequeath to my Uncle William Pollard of Padiham in the said County of Lancaster the Sum of Ten Pounds of like Money. I give and Bequeath to my Cousin James Pollard of Read aforesaid the sum of Ten Pounds of like Money. I give and Bequeath to my Cousin Ann the wife of William Wadington of Padiham aforesaid the sum of Ten Pounds of like Money I give and bequeath to my cousin Mary the Wife of John Stout of Padiham aforesaid the sum of Ten Pounds of like Money. I give and Bequeath to my cousin Peggy the Wife of John Whitehead the sum of Ten Pounds of like Money. I give and Bequeath to James Bolton of Number Six Bell Savage Court, Ludgate Hill – London, Gentleman the Sum of Fifty Pounds of like Money. All which said Legacies hereinbefore mentioned I hereby Order and direct to be paid by my Executors hereinafter named out of my Real and Personal Estate to my said several legatees or their Lawful Representatives at the end of Twelve Calendar Months next coming after my decease Except the said sum of Ten Pounds hereinbefore given and bequeathed to my cousin Peggy Whitehead which I hereby Order and direct to be paid to her own Hand or to her own Proper Use without the control or command of her said Husband And whereas I am Seised as of Fee Simple of and in all the One Freehold Messuage Farm and Tenement with the Lands and Hereditaments thereunto belonging commonly called and known by the Name of Stoops in the Township of Great Harwood aforesaid and now in the possession of Thomas Dean or his Undertenants . It is my further Will and Mind and I do hereby give devise and Bequeath my said Real Freehold Estate together with all the Rest Residue and remainder of my Personal Estate to my Brother John Aldred his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns absolutely forever. And I do herby Nominate and Appoint my said Brother John Aldred and William Sagar of Simonstone in the said County Shopkeeper, Executors of this my last Will and Testament hoping they will see the same duty performed as my trust is in them reposed allowing the said William Sagar five pounds for his trouble. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this Ninth Day of January int the Year of our Lord One thousand seven Hundred and Eighty Nine.
